Dr. Bob Johansen

Distinguished Fellow

Institute for the Future

Dr. Johansen served as IFTF’s president and CEO from 1996 to 2004. He is still on IFTF’s Board and the Leadership Team, now working mainly with senior corporate executives across a wide range of industries. Before his role as president, Dr. Johansen created and led IFTF’s program on emerging information technologies—now called the Technology Horizons Program. Since joining the IFTF staff in the 1970’s, he has explored many varied social and organizational impacts of new technologies—beginning when the Internet was still called the ARPANET

He is a frequent keynote speaker, with a strong focus on workshops with creative teams. He is the author or co-author of six books, including Upsizing the Individual in the Downsized Organization with novelist Rob Swigart, a guide for organizations undergoing massive change, and GlobalWork, a guide to leading global, cross-cultural teams. His seventh book, Get There Early: Sensing the Future to Compete in the Present, was selected as one of the top 30 business books of 2007. His latest book, Leaders Make the Future will be in bookstores on May 11, 2009.

A social scientist with an interdisciplinary background, Dr. Johansen holds a BS degree from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He also has a divinity school degree from what is now called Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, where he studied comparative religions.

McNeal   Michael McNeal

Michael McNeal has been involved in fast-paced, high-volume staffing across a multitude of industries for the past 20 years where he has developed Talent Acquisition models to support a variety of successful business and marketing strategies. He is known across the staffing world for influencing the success of multiple high growth companies which include Home Depot, Starbucks, Apple, Cisco Systems, Avaya, City Group and most recently as Vice President of Talent Strategy and Acquisition for Intuit, Inc., the maker of industry-leading business and financial management products.

He became senior director of corporate employment worldwide for Cisco Systems in June 1996, where he developed a recruitment strategy modeled after successful business and marketing strategies. In addition, McNeal co-founded PureCarbon, a software company that created "JobPlanet," which was recognized as a "Top Ten Human Resource Product" of 2000 by Human Resource Executive magazine. McNeal speaks regularly at national conferences about non-traditional recruitment methods and how talent resources can best deliver high-yield business results.

He has been published and recognized nationally by several organizations including CNN, the American Advertising Federation, the Society of Human Resources and was also recognized with Fast Company Magazine’s "Who’s Fast ‘99" award (issue 20). Most recently, McNeal was honored with the Bay Area Human Resources Symposium’s Award for Innovation.

Nancy Long

Senior Vice President

Nancy Long is responsible for all aspects of HR throughout Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) including HRIS, Workforce Planning/Staffing, Total Compensation, Performance Management, Management Development/Leadership Succession Planning, Employee Survey and Diversity/Advocacy, HR-Legal Compliance and OD/Management Support Consulting.

Prior to joining HDS in 2006, she was Sr. Vice President at O’Connor Hospital and before that spent 24 years with Hewlett-Packard, most recently as Vice President, HR for Global Marketing. She held numerous global executive level roles, with a career spanning multiple functions including Human Resources, Executive Development, R&D, Technical Marketing, and Information Technology. Prior to HP, she spent 7 years with United Airlines as a Systems Analyst. Her unique background brings a business acumen that is unusual among HR professionals.

Long holds a Masters degree in Human Resources and Organization Development from University of San Francisco. She also has specialist certificates from University of Chicago, Harvard University, Menninger Institute and West Valley College in multiple HR disciplines. She is certified in The Birkman Method, MBTI and TAIS. Long is a member of the San Jose State COB Advisory Board, International Executive Service Corp, and the Santa Clara Valley Strategic Human Resources Management organization, as well as a faculty member at San Jose State University, teaching in the Organization & Management department in the College of Business.

Morris   Donna Morris

Senior Vice President

As Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Donna Morris leads Adobe’s global human resources organization with responsibility for recruitment, growth and development, and total reward programs for more than 7,000 employees worldwide. Among her priorities is continuing to build upon a culture and values which have contributed to Adobe being recognized as one of the best places to work by Fortune Magazine in the United States and other publications around the world.

During her career, Morris has led both generalist and specialist human resources functions in the high technology, communications and government fields. Prior to becoming Senior Vice President in March 2007, Morris held several other management positions within Adobe Human Resources, providing leadership to the company’s global human resources activities. Before joining Adobe, Morris was Vice President of Human Resources and Learning at Accelio Corporation, a Canadian software company acquired by Adobe in 2002.

Morris has earned several industry honors, including Human Resources Professional of the Year in Ottawa, Canada and the Silicon Valley YWCA’s Tribute to Women (TWIN) Award. She is currently on the board of directors for the Adobe Foundation and Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties in California. Morris has a bachelor’s degree from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, and holds the Canadian Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

Ranninger  

Rebecca Ranninger

Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer

Symantec

As Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Rebecca Ranninger oversees strategic workforce management at Symantec. She manages the planning, direction and implementation of Symantec's global personnel programs and policies and participates in the overall executive management of the company, having overseen the successful acquisition of dozens of companies, both public and private. She has also built a recruiting and staffing function that has brought over 10,000 employees into the company worldwide in the last several years.

Before taking the helm in Human Resources in 1997, Ranninger served as Director of Litigation for Symantec. Her trial work covered all aspects of the high tech industry, including employee disputes, mergers and acquisitions, international sales, intellectual property and software licensing issues.

Prior to joining Symantec in 1991, Ranninger was a business litigator with the San Francisco-based law firm Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe, where she gained front line experience in intellectual property and securities litigation.

Ranninger holds a juris doctorate from Stanford University, a bachelor’s degree in jurisprudence from Oxford University, and a bachelor’s degree Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University. She has also completed the Human Resource Executive Program at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, and the Stanford Directors College at Stanford Law School.

David  

David Windley

Chief Human Resources Officer

Yahoo!

With 22 years of experience in Human Resources, David Windley, the leader of Yahoo!’s global HR team, is responsible for driving Yahoo!’s worldwide strategies around talent, culture and organization effectiveness. The HR team designs and implements programs to attract, develop, and engage talent, and facilitate the building of high performing organizations. Yahoo! has been listed among Fortune Magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work. Prior to his current position, Windley was Vice President of Human Resources and led the Yahoo! line HR team that supported the business organizations.

Windley’s extensive experience in the high tech industry includes executive positions at Microsoft, Intuit, and Silicon Graphics (SGI). As an HR executive at Microsoft, he supported the Chief Operating Officer. He was responsible for Microsoft’s international HR, and his team also supported sales, service, marketing, business segments, operations and IT. Windley also served as the VP of HR at Intuit for all of their business units and was SGI’s VP of Human Resources where he co-led the HR function. While at SGI, he worked in Switzerland supporting the European region and later in Singapore supporting the Asia Pacific region.

Windley also held human resource management roles in the construction & engineering, insurance, and entertainment-software industries. He has an MBA from San Francisco State University and a BS from San Diego State University.
